I cut my teeth as a designer working for Bass/Yager under the tutelage of Saul Bass, Art Goodman, and Dean Smith. While there, I worked on projects for Lawry’s Foods, AT&T, Pomona College, and EastWest Bank, to name a few. Eventually, I became creative director and partner at the firm spearheading projects for the J. Paul Getty Trust, Exxon and Esso, NCR, Dualstar, Pacific Life, and the University of Southern California, among many others.
Bass/Yager was purchased by Citigate and I assumed the position of west coast creative director for the international communication/financial public relations agency.
In 2003 Jay Toffoli Design Co. opened its doors. Since then I’ve counted AT&T, Claremont McKenna College, Purdue University, Scripps College, USC Marshall, USC Dornsife, USC Leventhal, Caltech, Broco-Rankin, Drew’s All Natural, Geffen Playhouse, Portola Paints & Glazes, Redcar Properties, and startups like TribeVest and Tampon Tribe as clients.
Over the years, I’ve partnered with writers, consultants, and agencies on projects for Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Direct Relief, Emma Willard School, Culinary Institute of America, Oberlin College, Marquette College, and the University of San Francisco, to name drop a few.
